Ranka Jewellers… a 134 year old establishment is the unparalleled supremo of the jewellery business in Pune.
The family business started by Shri. Gulabchandji Ranka is today the most reputed name in not only Maharashtra but the whole of India. This successful endeavour is today in the proficient hands of the fourth generation. The Brand of Ranka Jewellers was developed by Shri Nagraj Ranka in the year 1966 with our Raviwar Peth Showroom. It is our flagship store and was once the epicentre of the Ranka business.
Pune was growing and so was our family. Taking into account our growing popularity, Shri. Nagrajji Ranka decided to branch out to the hub of shopping… the ‘Laxmi Road’. He created the Laxmi Road showroom in 1992 and it is today an enormous 12000 sq. ft., five- storeyed store. It has successfully reached to the apex in an area with uncountable jewellery showrooms.
Next was the Karve Road showroom in 1999 which has a huge diamond section and is also a retail outlet for Platinum Jewellery. The Pimpri Chinchwad Showroom was launched in 2008. It specialises in Bridal Collections and is known to be one of the largest showrooms in Maharashtra. Then came the Hadapsar showroom in 2010.
The largest of all show rooms i.e.sixthshow room having area of 25,000 sq.ft was started at Sinhgad Road in October, 2011.
After success in Pune upon the request of Thane people we are opening our seventh showroom on 5th October, 2013 and eighth largest show room having area of 15,000 sq.ft will be opened on 9th October, 2013 at Satara Road, Pune.

Mr. T. S. Kalyanaraman is the Chairman and Managing Director of Kalyan Jewellers. His journey as a businessman started at the age of 12 when he was taken to his family owned textile shop to learn the basics from his father. After managing Kalyan Textiles, he set up Kalyan Jewellers on his own in 1993 with an investment of Rs 75 lakh and in a span of less than two decades the company has grown to be India’s largest and most trusted jewellery retail company.
The ancestors of the present management of Kalyan Jewellers come from a pious family of saints and priests, called ‘Trikkur Madom’ in Thrissur district of Kerala. They migrated from Tamil Nadu generations back and lived as saints and advisors to kings.
The family entered in business for a noble cause inspired by a senior relative who was a Dewan to the Maharaja of Kochi, Raja Bahadur Ramachandra Iyer. In those days of pre-independence India, the Dewan encouraged Indians to start business and enterprise to create employment and also to become self-sufficient as a country. He realized the social impact of business and therefore had stressed the need to do it in a fair and honest manner.
It was this inspiration for nation-building and social commitment that led to the forefathers of the Kalyan family to enter business through one of the first textile mills in Kerala. Subsequently they entered into textile retailing and the present Managing Director Mr. T. S. Kalyanaraman still owns the textile store he inherited called Kalyan Textiles.
T S Kalyanaraman got inducted into business by his father when he was a school going boy of 12. His father would encourage him to watch the business at the textile shop, after he was finished with his lessons and games. He would be assigned small tasks like counting cash and taking stock – which he enjoyed very much. Thus, he learnt the basics very early in life. Over a period of time, the textile business flourished. At some point, customers suggested that they needed a trusted jeweller and that is how this business was born, in 1993.
Kalyan Jewellers has its origins in Kalyan Textiles, a century old firm in Thrissur, engaged in textile retailing. Kalyan Jewellers are presently engaged in retailing of jewellery in gold, silver, platinum, diamond and pearls. The company was founded in 1993 and is based in, Thrissur, Kerala.
The company is investing around Rs 1300 crore on pan-India expansion. It is also expanding its network in the Gulf region next year.
The company operates 52 stores and has ambitious plans to open 80 more showrooms in the next three years. These are being planned in almost all Tier 1 & 2 cites, Middle East, GCC Countries, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Born on 25th Jan, 1947, Sanjay Kothari ,son of renowned surgeon and of past mayor Baroda municipal corporation
(Gujarat), did he is schooling from Baroda and was a medical student, but he left his studies from in between and
became a Diamond Merchant in 1966. In 1970 he got his life partner Maya and business partner Yatish Mehta
(who was an established diamond merchant). Together they established export orientated a firm named Kunal
Diamonds which is still in existence since 43 years. They have got an office in Antwerp handled by his brother since
1980 under the name of Sushang Exports. When the next generation of Sanjay Kothari and his partner Mr. Mehta came
in business they together diversified into jewellery and established a company name “Diatrends Jewellery Pvt. Ltd.” in
1994. who are in fine jewellery exports.
Mr. Kothari joined Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in 1994 as a member of administrative committee
and served council in various positions before becoming a longest serving Chairman of GJEPC from year 2000 to 2004.
After a gap of few years he again became a Chairman from 2008-2010. Now since many year he has been holding the post of
convener of Promotion Marketing and business development (PM & BD) of GJEPC till today.
It was his effort ,endeavor and vision which created a first B to B exhibition in India on a large scale namely “Indian International
Jewellery Show (IIJS)” which is fourth largest show in the world and has become a brand by itself.
